8WT OUTFIT ON BUDGET
OUTFIT
The 8wt is the most versatile rod to have for salt. Bonefish, redfish, jacks, sea trout, small tarpon, stripers, blues, albies, seabass, spanish macks, small cuda, . . . the list goes on. With so many rods, reels and lines out there it’s tough to get it right, espcially if you are on a tight budget. We put together several items to make an outfit that won’t break the bank and definitely won’t leave you feeling salty when you’re out there.
ROD
The Echo Base rod is such a deal for the price. Obviously, this rod will not have the same performance aspects as a more premium rod. However, at $99.99 it’s hard to pass up a solid rod with a great warranty. The medium fast action is great for all anglers. (I actually prefer this action of rod for sinking or intermediate line.) Remember, it is the angler that catches fish.
REEL
Waterworks-Lamson makes one of the best reels for the best price. Excellent drag and great craftsmanship are a “reel” bargin. The Lamson Liquid reel 3 pack is a crazy good deal. A reel with two extra spools and
a sweet case for $169.99 (get the 3.5 model). The extra spools will make it easier to use the same reel when switching from stripers to redfish. You can also customize the drag cassette with custom colors for 10 bucks!
LINES
Here are two excellent
lines. The Scientific Anglers Frequency intermediate line will take care of your striper and cold water salt needs perfectly, especially at $49.99. Such a deal from SA. The Orvis Access has a large shooting head that makes casting a breeze. This line at 59.99 will be a good choice for sight casting and general inshore. We have really enjoyed Orvis’s new products and we know you will too.
