Return of F3T: 2016
In case you have forgotten, the 2016 installment of the Fly Fishing Film tour was insane. It is easy to forget about since it has been over two years since the trailers for the film were initially released. And the 2017 installment has also come and gone but no need to wait for the 2018 tour, the 2016 installment is finally for sale online. After only seeing this series of films once or not at all, here are a few reasons why you should go back and watch the tenth edition of the F3T.
Every year the Fly Fishing Film Tour improves mainly because technology improves therefore improving the quality of submissions. Production quality, soundtracks and cinematography have all made vast improvements from its early years. And since a year and a half typically goes by between premier and release date, this is usually forgotten. Here are some of the things you might have forgotten about 2016.
Much of the world was introduced to milkfish. Those in the know already had an idea of what a milkfish is and can do. But the fish still lies in obscurity. The film “Chanos Chanos” highlights milkfish in the Seychelles. There are enough slow-motion jumping fish shots to make any tarpon nerd want to leave the Atlantic ocean. The movie follows the history of milkfish in the Seychelles and provides quick biology lesson on the fish.
We saw the vulnerability of steelhead. Steelhead movies are often bogged down by their environmental message. It can be depressing to hear about, and rightfully so. Steelhead movies can often resemble animal adoption commercials for me, where it is so depressing that I just turn off my television. Chrome however balances humor and education. Creating a fantastic movie worth watching.
Tidewater showcased the amount of work that can go into catching a single fish. Bluewater fishing is a foreign concept to many fly fishers. Tidewater follows a crew pursuing billfish on the fly off the coast of Virginia. It gives insight into a side of fly fishing that few people know about.
Geofish found its way into the spotlight. After traveling the world and showcasing their voyages and antics on the internet, Geofish released their film Destination: Guyana on F3T. Without the help of drones and high production value, Geofish created one of the most memorable fishing flicks in the last 5 years. It is worth buying F3T 2016 just to watch Geofish track down giant arapaima.
If you forgot about F3T 2016 or never got a chance to see it, now is a perfect time.
